What is the best way to care for removable dentures?

Removable partial or full dentures require proper care to keep them clean, stain-free, and in good condition. For proper denture care and to maintain good oral health, you should care for your full and partial dentures as carefully as you would for your natural teeth.

For proper denture care:

  • Remove and wash your dentures after eating. Rinse your dentures with water to remove food debris and other particles. It is recommended that you place a towel on the counter or in the sink, or put water in the sink so that your dentures do not break if they fall.

  • Clean your mouth after removing your dentures. Use a soft-bristled brush for your natural teeth and gums. If you use denture glue, remove any residue left on your gums.

  • Brush your dentures at least once a day. Remove and clean your dentures thoroughly daily. Soak and brush with a soft-bristled brush and a non-abrasive denture cleanser to remove food, plaque and other deposits. If you use denture glue, clean any particles that remain in the gum line to remove any adhesive.

Do not use denture cleaners to clean the inside of your mouth.

  • Soak your denture overnight. Almost all types of dentures need to be kept moist, which ensures that the acrylic will not become brittle or lose its shape.

  • Soak your denture overnight in water or NOVADENT denture soaking solution. Novadent’s unique 7-day formula contains quality-tested ingredients that remain 100% effective, 24 hours a day, for a full week.

  • Rinse it before putting it back in your mouth, especially if you are using a denture soaking solution. These solutions may contain harmful chemicals that cause vomiting, pain or burning if swallowed.
